Configuration Properties (CPs) – Important!
Using Rover Configuration Files (RCF)
Networks with Trane Building Control Units (BCUs)
Advanced Configuration (Timing Parameters)
Trane LNS plug-ins are designed to run on a PC or laptop with LonMaker® 3.1 (SP3) or LonMaker Turbo (SP1), either of which has been provided and installed by the user. Trane LNS plug-ins are compatible with LonMaker 3.1 (SP3) using an LNS 3.0 (SP8) or an LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP2) database. The plug-ins are also compatible with LonMaker Turbo (SP1) using an LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP2) database. The MP580/581 plug-in is the one exception to this, and is compatible only with an LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP2) database.
Trane LNS plug-ins are designed to work with the latest firmware for each controller. See supported devices at the end of this document for a list of devices and supported program IDs.
Although many Trane XIF files contain default configuration property (CP) data, it is highly recommended that you configure LonMaker to upload CP data from the device. Loading CP data from the LNS database or using default values from the XIF file may change the device configuration, or in some cases may cause an incorrect configuration of the existing device.
It is not necessary to have the Rover Service Tool software installed on your PC; if you do, Rover 5 (SP10) is required. The installation program will install all necessary files and create an import directory for the XIF files in Lonworks/import/Trane.
· LonMaker 3.1 (SP3) or LonMaker 3.2 Turbo (SP1) installed
· LNS 3.1 (SP8) or LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP2) database installed
· Network interface card installed
1. Close LonMaker and any LNS applications that are running on your PC.
2. Run the TraneLNS_PlugIn.exe file.
3. Restart LonMaker.
4. Register the new plug-ins.
The following conditions must be met before a Trane LNS plug-in can launch:
· The plug-in must be registered with LonMaker.
· The LNS network must be Attached.
· The device must have a program ID listed in the supported devices.
· The device must be in a configured online, configured offline, or configured soft offline mode.
· LonMaker using LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP3) must be in an Onnet or Offnet mode.
· LonMaker using LNS 3.0 (SP8) must be in the Onnet mode.
A Rover configuration file (RCF) is a file that copies a configuration from one device to another using the same configuration parameters. RCF files are supported in both the Trane Rover Service tool and in the Trane LNS plug-ins.
The save function is located in the configuration area of the plug-in screen, which can be accessed by selecting the Configuration button from the status screens. Once a configuration is saved, it can be used to restore a configuration to a device in the event that a device must be replaced.
Note: Not all Trane devices support RCF files.
Important! When using the LNS plug-in on sites with a BCU as the network manager, the LNS database must be recovered from the existing network to avoid corrupting the existing network.
Warning! Recovering a network with a BCU is unstable; therefore, it
is not recommended and is not supported. Procedures to recover a network,
along with a corresponding system plug-in, will be available in a future
release. Additionally, Echelon is adding support to aid in recovery. This will
be incorporated into LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP3) with a release date not yet
determined.
Note: Location labels cannot contain special characters or periods.
If you have devices that were previously saved this way in Rover, rename them
before recovering the network.
Note: These are shortened steps for recovering a network; only steps that will impact the recovery process are listed.
1. In LonMaker Turbo, click the LonMaker Default Options tab (Figure 1).
2. From the Options category list, select Configuration properties.
3. In the CP Value Source area, select Device from the New devices and Existing devices lists.
Figure 1. Recovering a network (steps 1-3)
5. Click the General tab.
6. Select the Show all options check box in the New network area.
7. Click Create Network; the Network wizard opens.
8. Select the Recover database check box, and then click Next.
9. In the Plug-in Registration area, confirm that the plug-ins for the devices on the network are pending registration. Click Next.
10. In the Domain Definition area, select 1 for the Domain length (bytes:), and in the Domain ID field enter 11.
11. Click Finish.
Note: Trane BCUs install LON devices on domain 11 (hex).
Trane uses the location labels to identify and give devices a name within Rover. LonMaker uses the location labels to identify different subsystems. Because of this, it is recommended that all subsystems be placed on a single Microsoft® Visio document.
When recovering a Trane network, a warning message might display at the end of the recovery process (Figure 2). In most cases this is not cause for alarm and the message can be ignored.
Figure 2. Error message
Trane LNS plug-ins contain embedded help files that are specific to each plug-in. To access the help files, click the Help button located on the right side of the status area of the plug-in, or from the bottom right side of the configuration area of the plug-in.
The MP580 Status Plug-in contains a different type of help system known as context-sensitive help, which provides topic specific help. To access, select “What’s this?” from Help in the main menu. This will change the appearance of your cursor. The “What’s this?” help is specific to each field. Click on a field within the MP580 status plug-in and help for the selected field appears.
Advanced Configuration (timing parameters) are available in most Trane LNS Plug-ins but are not intuitive to find. To access this function:
1. Open the Configuration editor of the LNS plug-in (Figure 3).
2. Click the Setpoints tab.
3. In the Default Setpoints area, click in the left corner beneath the Unoccupied Heating field.
Figure 3. Advanced configuration (steps 1-3)
4. A warning message might appear; click Yes (Figure 4). The Advanced Configuration dialog box displays (Figure 5).

Several technical issues have been identified and are addressed in this section. The following list contains a brief description of each issue, followed by a recommended solution.
Issue
After recovering a network, devices display as uncommissioned/unable to propagate configuration properties
(CPs).
Solution
This issue will be resolved in LNS 3.2 Turbo (SP 3).
Issue
A Plug-in does not display when clicking on the device
in LonMaker 3.1 (this does not affect LonMaker Turbo 3.2).
Solution
This occurs only in LonMaker
3.1 when a device is added and commissioned before the plug-in is registered.
After registering the plug-in, close the network and reopen it.
Note: The device must have the current program ID as listed in Table
1 for a plug-in to launch.
Issue
Error message displays: NS #28, Subsystem; NS #6 Subsystem; NS #25/DB1.
Solution
One of the above error messages may display when
adding and commissioning a device. These error messages do not effect the function of the device
or the plug-in.
Issue
Error message displays: NS #24.
Solution
This message displays when selected Trane devices are
added to the network while the network is unattached. To prevent this from
occurring, do the following:
1. In Microsoft Visio, select LonMaker from the main menu, and then click Network Properties.
2. Click the LonMaker options tab.
3. In the Options category, select Recovery.
4. Select the Set SCPT location value to subsystem path check box in the Subsystem Recovery Options area.
5. Click Apply, and then OK.
or
6. Follow steps 1 and 2 as described above.
7. In the Options category, select Configuration properties.
8. Select Device from both the New devices and Existing devices lists in the CP Value Source area.
9. Click Apply, and then OK.
Note: Do not perform the above procedures in LonMaker Turbo Designer; it will not solve the issue at hand.
Issue
Error message displays: Data Server #415
Solution
This message may display if a USB interface, in which
the buffer size is set too low, is used when uploading from an MP580/581. To
prevent this, reset the buffers by doing the following:
1. From the Control panel in Microsoft Windows, select LonWorks Interface.
2. Click the USB tab.
3. Select an interface from the list and then click Properties. The Properties dialog box displays.
4. In the Application Buffers area, reset the Input and Output Count to 1; in Size, reset to 114. In the Network Buffers area, reset the Input and Output Count to 1; in Size, reset to 255 (see Figure 6).
Figure 6. Example of correct buffer settings in a LonWorks interface
5. Click Apply, and then OK.
Issue
LonMaker becomes suspended after multiple plug-ins are installed. Plug-in registration may end before
completion.
Solution
When creating a new network, LonMaker
defaults all unregistered plug-ins to pending status forcing it to register the
plug-ins upon network creation. First-time registration of multiple plug-ins may fail to register.
To prevent this from occurring, do the following:
1. In LonMaker Design Manager, click the New Network Options tab.
2. In the Plug-ins area, ensure that the Register new plug-ins check box is not selected.
Issue
The device name assigned during adding and commissioning of the device is not
reflected in the Visio drawing name, causing the plug-in launch to fail.
Solution
1. Right-click on the device graphic and select Device Properties.
2. In the Device Properties dialog box, verify that the name in the Device name field is the name that was assigned to the device when it was created.
3. Click OK.
This updates the Visio drawing name, allowing for the plug-in to launch.
